Selecting the right home builder for your dream home is essential. Working with a home builder who understands your vision can make the build process smooth, efficient and a lot more stress free.
It can be difficult to know which companies to approach when you’ve never built or renovated before, and it might seem like you’re faced with a plethora of options and no idea which direction to take.
Hearing insight from the people who have been there, done that, can make this seemingly daunting choice a little bit easier. We reached out to our clients to find out what impacted their choice how they knew the home building company was the right one for them.
“What were the most important things you considered when selecting a builder?”
Reliability and Flexibility were two common answers from our Clients. It’s important to work with people who are going to do the right thing by you. You want to be able to rely on your builder to come through with the things they promise, and be safe in the knowledge that they have your best interest at the forefront of their minds.
Likewise, working with a builder who will accommodate your plans and ideas wherever possible is integral for a smooth building process. You want assurance that if changes need to be made, your builder has the flexibility to do everything possible to make it happen.
Trust and Communication was also a priority for our clients. Our client explained that “clear communications between all parties involved” was the most important thing to them when selecting their builder. You want to work with a builder that always communicates what is going on every step of the way. Your builder should always keep you well informed and in the know when it comes to your home.
Quick and clear communication is also important in establishing trust with your builder. You want your builder to be open and honest about any issues that may arise, so that they can be tackled quickly and calmly. Choosing a custom home builder you can trust helps you feel at ease throughout the building process and makes it easier to come to your builder with any issue you might run into – be it big or small.
“Who or what information did you use in coming to your decision on a Builder?”
Reviews are extremely important when dealing with any business. They give you an insight into other people’s experiences with a business – what went well, and what didn’t. Our clients said reviews were extremely important in helping them make a decision when selecting their home builder.
Reviews give you an honest and personal insight into previous experiences with a company or business. Paying attention to reviews should give you a general idea of what you can expect if you choose to work with a specific builder.
For example, If you place high importance on professionalism and strong communication but reviews from clients indicate that a company didn’t answer phone calls and left clients feeling like they weren’t heard, then you know that builder is probably not right for you.
Recommendations can be extremely useful and reliable intel, especially when the recommendation comes from close friends, family and trusted sources.
Having someone in the building industry that you can ask for recommendations is a huge plus, but recommendations from friends or family who have gone through the build experience is just as valuable. One of our clients came to us from a recommendation by a home designer they had previously worked with.
Having An Initial Consultation with any home builders you are considering is crucial when deciding if that builder is right for you. Your consultation will be the first time you are able to properly meet with your builder. It will allow you to meet face-to face and get to know them on a personal level. You want to make sure you gel with your building team, so meeting up in person whenever possible is extremely important.
During your consultation, you will also be able to discuss your plans and ideas. You want to make sure your home builder can execute your vision, and that they understand you, your family and any limitations or constraints you might be working around in order to bring your ideas to life. Our client explained that after their first consultation meeting they knew “opting for a smaller builder was going to be a much better option” for the home they had envisioned.
Now It’s time to venture into the big world of building!
It can be a good idea to have a few builders in mind, so that you can compare your options and make the best choice possible. Do your research, read reviews and book those consultations!
